Lima is a paradise for gourmet lovers. Here you will find not only international but also excellent local cuisine.

There are many types of restaurants, from the elegant so called "Cinco Tenedores" (Five Forks) to what the locals lovingly call "Huariques" modest establishments but very popular due to the excellent food they prepare.

The average cost of a first class meal per person is between USD 30.00 to USD 50.00, while at more modest places you can get a good meal for around USD 15.00 to USD 30.00. There are also many places where the cost of a good meal is less than USD 10.00

You will be able to choose from a plethora of restaurants that serves what is locally known as "Criollo" food, which is the typical local dishes. Some of these are first class restaurants and many others offer you the opportunity to eat a first class meal at a very cheap price.

Close to Lima you will find a number of first class restaurants and also many more modest ones. These last ones may not look much but the food is often excellent.

Most restaurants will offer what is called a menu, i.e. a combination of entrée, main course and dessert, which is generally very cheap with prices that vary between USD 2.00 and 5.00 per person. These restaurants are very popular amongst the local people.
