Lima has an ideal zone for
the practice of
rafting (which many people insist
on calling canoeing) and it is located at a little over two hour
drive south bound. It is Lunahuana, a picturesque small town in
the sierra of Cañete, a Province of the Region of Lima.
First you have to access San Vicente de Cañete, 135 kilometres south
of
Lima, going through the Pan American Highway.
Then you ascend through a steep though safe road towards the east
for about another 43 kilometres.
Thanks to the affluence of the Cañete River, the warm valley of Lunahuana is a paradise for the practice of adventure sports. It has rapids rated class II, III and IV. A festival including canoeing, paragliding, trekking, free flying, mountain biking and reel and fishnet fishing championships, is organised at this place.
Rafting at the Cañete River can be practised all
year long. The river has a 220 kilometre extension and is born at
the Ticliacocha lagoon, at Yauyos. Different routes are offered
depending on the level of its waters.
