ADVENTURE SPORTS IN LIMA
CANOEING
Canoeing in Lunahuana (Lima)
The season starts in October and goes into April.
Adventure Sports Festival - Lunahuana Canoeing in Lunahuana, Lima Place: Cañete (Lima) Date: 1st week of March (variable)
At only 30 minutes from San Vicente de Cañete, a city located 150
kilometres south of Lima, the warm valley of Lunahuana
is a paradise for adventure sports thanks to the Cañete River, which
has rapids of class II, III and IV. A festival including canoeing,
paragliding, trekking, free flying, mountain biking, and reel and
dragnet fishing championships, is organised at this place.
The stay in Lunahuana is an excellent pretext to visit the nearby archaeological site of Incahuasi and the suspension bridge of Catapalla. Other attractions of the zone are the tasting of wines at the wine cellars of the region, and the exotic dishes prepared by the locals, such as the rabbits with carapulcra (stewed dried potatoes) and guinea pig in wine.
Recommendations
Always hire the services of a firm with experience in the practice of canoeing. Follow thoroughly the instructions given by the guides and skippers and always demand safety additives, such as a helmet and a lifejacket. Do not insist on navigating over excessively difficult or unknown zones, for this could cause serious accidents.
