Local cuisine offers a large variety of dishes prepared with guinea pig, poultry, pork and lamb. Sweets and small breads are prepared in the area as well.
Soups are very popular in the area, such as the very popular "picante de cuy", a spicy soup made from guinea pig and served with boiled patatoes or the "jaca cashqui", also prepared with guinea pig, and the "pecan-caldo" prepared with sheeps head. In Huaraz you also can find Chinese and Italian restaurants.
