The journey from Lima to Arequipa by road via the Southern Panamericana Highway takes about 14 hours. Bus transport companies provide non-stop journeys, with meals, air conditioning and comfortable seats.

Arequipa connects with other larger cities such as Tacna (via the Southern Panamericana Highway), Puno (though the road is in very poor conditions) and Cuzco (crossing through Tintaya). The cities of Juliaca, Puno and Cuzco are also connected by train.
