Then, we drive out of the city to visit the Inca sites of Kenko, Tambomachay, Puca Pucara and the impressive fortress of Sacsayhuaman, strategically built on a hill overlooking Cusco, famous for its enormous carved stones, some of them standing over 9 m / 30 ft high and weighing over 350 tons. Option 2: Early breakfast at your hotel. Transfer to the Ollantaytambo station in the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Depart in the Train for a ride to Aguas Calientes. Upon arrival at Aguas Calientes, you will make the 25-minute motor coach ascent along the zig zag hill road to the "Lost City of the Incas". We tour the ruins for around 3 hours, during which time our guide explains the astounding degree of technology achieved by the builders of this famous site. The exact precision in the buildings of carved stone, the water canals that show their deep knowledge of hydraulics, the staircases carved from the living rock of the mountain, and the Intihuatana, (or "hitching post of the sun"), which served as an astronomical calendar, showing when to sow and when to reap, all show a technological advancement by the Inca Empire far beyond anything this area of the world was thought to have achieved. These, along with the Temple of the Sun, the Royal Tomb, the Priests' House, the Inca Baths and the Temple of the Three Windows, all allow us to glimpse back into the past and, with the help of our guide, revisit the lives of these truly remarkable people. The mid-afternoon train takes you back to Ollantaytambo where you will be waited upon to for the drive back to the City of Cuzco. Meet by our Representative and transfer to your hotel. Meals Included: Breakfast DAY 10 September 27th: Arequipa City Tour Morning sightseeing tour of Arequipa, including the Main Square, one of the most beautiful squares in Peru, and the Cathedral, a prime example of XIXth Century Peruvian architecture, housing beautiful treasures in gold and silver. We also visit the La Compañia Church, an ancient Jesuit temple, maybe the most important one in Arequipa due to its history and tradition, with a beautiful façade with carved columns, laurel crowns, flowers, birds, etc. A more careful look at the façade, however, reveals the limits of European influence, as the angels have Indian faces; and indeed one face is even crowned with feathers. Then, we will visit the Santa Catalina Convent; a "small town" built in the XVIIth Century and opened to the public in 1970, after 400 years as a Cloister. Perfectly preserved for four centuries, you go back in time as you enter the Cloister and see the numerous, spacious patios and gardens, the kitchen and slave quarters and stone washtubs of this Convent. About 20 nuns, of what were once 500, still live in a section of the Convent. Finally we will make a visit to the Inka Rally workshops. We suggest having an early night. Meals Included: Breakfast DAY 11 September 28th: Arequipa - Lima We recommend an early 05:15 AM departure to make sure of a privileged vantage point from whence appreciate the high speed manoeuvres of the pilots. At 09: 00 AM back to Arequipa to board your plane to Lima. In Lima, transfer to watch the arrival of the vehicles at the km 70 mark of the Southern Pan-American Highway.
