MANU BIOSPHERE RESERVE
Infinite greenness
Manu Biosphere Reserve
encompasses three zones: The Manu National Park an intangible
area and one of the world biggest park of 1,532,806 hectares,
The Reserve Zone, of 257,000 hectares dedicated to Tourism and
Research, and the Cultural Zone where native communities live
in 91,394 hectares.
In its natural immensity, we can find different ecological land
surfaces going from 356 up to 4,000 m.a.s.l., which explains
it astonishing flora and fauna diversity. It is said that in
only one hectare they found more than 250 trees species as an
example.
Everything is amazing in this Biosphere: the indefatigable strength
of Manu River, the strange birds as the "Paujil",
a bird similar to a hen coming from the Amazon, the bluish "perdiz"
the biggest in its specie, or just the
pleasure of resting under a beautiful tree such as the "Cetico"(Cecropia
sp.) or the "Tornillo" (Cedrelinga catenaeformis).
Other
surprising species are the cutter leaves ants ( Atta.sp.), the
colourful butterflies (with 1,300 species already registered),
the quietness of the alligator in the rivers or the monkey show
hanging from one tree to another.
The heavy jungle hides some secrets. The drawings of Pusharo,
with its enigmatic designs and wood sculptures, that we can
find at Bajo Palotoa, and the exciting Inca trail leading to
Mameria, are all proves of an extinguished culture.
But the wisdom of Humans involved in time changes have been
transmitted to some native communities: machiguengas, amahuacas,
masco-piros and Yaminahuas. Besides, there are some other tribes
still intact. They are nomads and in their tiring and indefatigable
walk pretend to show the possible communion with nature.
Manu
will remain being a unique world surrounded by mysteries that
according to some legends hide the mystic Paititi or El Dorado,
the lost city of Incas where the Tawantisuyo treasure may rest.
Legend born the first years while being conquered when the Spaniards
were exhaustingly looking for gold. The only thing we are certain
is that Manu National Reserve protects a real natural wealth
that must be respected as it will be our future as well as our
current joyness.
