Lima's greatness is exemplified by her main square with a fountain with eight lions that spout water into the bronze basin; by the Cathedral, whose building was begun by conquistador Pizarro; by the convents of Santo Domingo, San Agustin and San Pedro, and in San Francisco with its extraordinary stone front, impressive collection of tiles brought from Seville in 1602 and its famous catacombs.

The spiritual greatness of the city is representad in its saints Rose de Lima, Martin de Porres, Toribio de Mogrovejo and Francisco Solano who in spite of being Spanish-born chose Lima to live and die in.
