ARCHAEOLOGICAL REMAINS THAT ARE ABOUT 3,000 YEARS OLD
In December the works of excavation in the Sanctuary of Collud are started again. In two months the works of excavation in the Temple of Collud, located in the archaeological Sanctuary of the same name will be started again, in the District of Pomalca, Lambayeque. This thanks to a contribution of US$600 thousand that will be co-financed by the Fondo Contravalor Perú Francia and the Unidad Ejecutora Naylamp. The works had been paralyzed during a year.
The announcement was made yesterday by the Director of the Museum Royal Tombs, Walter Alva, and the Minister of Education, Jose Antonio Chang. The archaeological complex Collud-Zarpán is considered the Theocratic Capital of the Formative Period. This place lodges both the temples that have the same name. According to Alva, one is the true religious centre of the Lambayeque Region. The monument has an approximate antiquity of 3,000 years. In the Temple of Collud the supreme deity was the Spider. The God Spider is carved in high relief in a mural at the low part of the temple that, according to the archaeologist Ignacio Alva Meneses, would be the front end of the enclosure. The excavation tasks will be started again in December.
Walter Alva indicated that, once the works in the temples have culminated, if the presence of important remains is confirmed, he will ask the State for the relocation of the 120 families who live next to the construction to be able to continue with the works of investigation and excavation in the rest of the land.
CULTURAL DESTINATION
On the other hand, minister Chang indicated that Lambayeque has much tourist potential to offer to the world. He affirmed that the Government will support in all the necessary to make the project of the archaeological circuit of this region viable. The route would include the temples of Collud, Ventarrón, Sipán, Saltur and Pampa Grande. Nevertheless, Chang left it clear that this will only be executed once the investigations in these sectors are culminated.
